子曰：「道之不行也，我知之矣：知者過之；愚者不及也。道之不明也，我知之矣：賢者過之；不肖者不及也。」
1. Nabi bersabda, “ Adapun sebabnya Tao itu tidak terlaksana aku sudah mengetahui: Yang pandai melampaui, sedang yang bodoh tidak dapat mencapai. Adapun sebabnya Tao itu tidak dapat disadari jelas-jelas, aku sudah mengetahui: Yang banyak pengetahuan melampaui, sedang yang tidak tahu tidak dapat mencapai.
The Master said, "I know how it is that the path of the Mean is not walked in:– The knowing go beyond it, and the stupid do not come up to it. I know how it is that the path of the Mean is not understood:– The men of talents and virtue go beyond it, and the worthless do not come up to it. [Legge]
Confucius said: "I know why the Way is not practiced. The intelligent go beyond it and the dull do not reach it. I know why the Way is not manifested. The 'good' go beyond it and the unworthy do not reach it. [C. Muller]
孔子子：“中庸之道行不通，我知道那原因了：聪明人做过了头，愚笨的人赶不上。中庸之道不能被人透彻了解，我知道那原因了：好人讲过了头，坏人讲得很少。[白话翻译 ]
人莫不飲食也。鮮能知味也。
2. Tiada seorangpun yang tanpa makan dan minum, namun jarang yang mampu meresapi rasanya.”
"There is no body but eats and drinks. But they are few who can distinguish flavours."[Legge]
There is no one who does not eat or drink, but there are few who really have 'taste.'"[C. Muller]
没有人不吃不喝的，却很少人真正知道其味道。”[白话翻译]
